Ellison EFS-2 Overhaul parts
« on: May 25, 2017 »
I understand that Ellison is no-more and apparently won't take phone calls or emails anymore.

I have a fuel leak coming from the grose jet valve which meters the fuel into the diaphragm.

So far, I have tried an nitrile o-ring to replace the perished one and then a backing ring to see if I could get it to stop but it seems to still be weeping.

Does anyone have any detail on what Viton seal is behind this little grose jet and where I can get any of the parts for the Ellison such as a new diaphragm?

Could be a bin job unfortunately if I cant get it to work and may have to look at the Aerocarb or Rotec options instead.

Bit disappointing there isn't much info on these things as I believe there are quite a few still out there!

Cheers!

I've been able to source Viton rings etc from RB Packings in Montreal, for my steam locomotives. Never had need of diaphragms but they probably have them. Nothing else will stand up to SAE 1080 steam cylinder oil at superheated steam temperatures.

Thanks mate, I can get small seals and o-rings but need to know what I'm replacing it with (eg. Dimensions etc)
I also think that it is the grose jet itself that is leaking so need to get a part number or supplier.

I too am using a steam engine modellers company here in Aus to source the seals etc.

Those guys know how to make good stuff and small!

Thanks for the reply!

Hey Mate,
I looked at

http://www.sealsonline.com/rbmtl/index.php?id_cms=70&controller=cms&id_lang=1

but didn't see diaphragms. It might be worth an email anyway. Bill E

Yeah cheers,

I checked out the website but very similar to the one I use already. (have linked the one I use below)

http://www.minibearings.com.au/?amt=20.42&cc=AUD&st=Completed&tx=61P70014EA644830Y

I will email them anyway and see but don't think there is much hope of this TBI going anywhere but the rubbish bin.

That's it... Ellison TBI is coming off and getting thrown away...

I have spoken with Paul from Rotec and he is offering a brand new TBI-34 Mk2 from Rotec on special at the moment for $789 (AUD) with delivery in Australia.

That to me seems like the best option to ensure no more fuel leakage as when I pulled the Ellison off, there was a significant amount of fuel sitting in the throat of the intake manifold... complete fire hazard.

Another potential carb setup that I was advised for is to use an altitude compensating carburetor from Harley Davidson as these are supposed to work quite well. But with the clearance issues of the original TBI location, the TBI-34 should fit straight in there so would be a better option.

Cheers

I had an Ellison 2 I was planning to  use awhile back, but when I checked with Ellison they quit supporting the 2.  So I sold it with another project.  Would have made a nice paperweight for all my receipts from Aircraft Spruce.  I replaced it with an Aerocarb that functions wonderfully.

Further to this, I have seen somewhere that NVAero are now supporting old Ellison TBI's.

I emailed them a week ago about it but haven't heard anything back yet.

Will post again if I find anything out.
