Best jacking point(s) for S2L
« on: Nov 02, 2017 »
It will soon be time for me to perform my first 'Annual Condition Inspection' on my S2L. At what location e.g. (jack points) and (how) do you experienced Sonerai owners typically jack the plane off of ground to allow removal of wheels and brakes, for inspection and service, etc? With the wheel pants off, (on mine), I don't see any sturdy area or projection, to safely lift a wheel off and support the strut or axel, for wheel removal, to inspect wheel halves, brake pads and repack bearings etc.

As noted on other posts here...I am an A&P, but this is my first Sonerai rodeo and I am the 4th owner of this plane. I would rather ask those who know, even the simplest of questions, rather than bumble-through and risk avoidable damage or mishap to myself or my bird.
Thx for any info and instructions.

I've jacked the wheels 2 ways.
1. carve a 4X4 X 8 " block of wood to form a clamp / \over the tapered main gear leaf, Then carve a recess O in the wood block to accept a bottle jack.
2. Clamp a c-clamp on the gear leaf, then  use a bottle jack to lift the clamp. It may be safer to clamp a small block of 3/4" wood to the leaf and jack the edge of the block with the V on the jack.

I clamp two small 2x4 blocks to each side of the gear leg with two c clamps then put my floor jack under the c clamp and lift on the c clamp.

Thx much for the simple and apparently effective methods you fellas recommended. I was envisioning an all metal, tapered lifting pad, as seen in use at most GA FBOs', for use on Cessna fixed gear struts...like the 4x4x8 wood piece mentioned by Bil438. I like it! I will build myself one of these for future use and go the simplest route; (Pttim) with 2x4 wood blocks and a C-clamp for my immediate needs. I was hoping to start my 'Cond. Insp.' 1st a.m. tomorrow (Sa.), and you guys with your prompt and helpful response here has made it possible! I love this forum! So glad I joined! Sonerai owners and the forum members here absolutely ROCK!
I have more than paid for, my membership dues this year in just a few Q&A sessions here!
Respect and Gratitude!,
JJ :)
P.S. I 'up'd each of your "like" counts by one! Thanks again guys!

Here's a tool you can take on the road with you. Just some 3/8" all-thread bent to accept the groove in a standard bottle jack.
