FWIW I did my advanced taildragger training in a Maule Rocket with the leader of the Pitts Aerobatic Team in Smith Falls , ON. Probably the reason I'm alive today.
Lesson one, It is just fine to fly 10 approaches to land and not actually touch down til #10.
Forcing it onto the ground and crashing on approach #1 is the worst possible choice.
Thus I always try to fly with full fuel of 16  gals. 23 gals if I fill the tip tanks.
