Chucker, Do you really need the charging system? A relatively small lithium battery will run your ignition for a lot longer than a Sonerai's crusing range, even with an extended tank. Having the charging system means you'll need a transponder and ADS/B in most airspace in this country.

looking for Landing Gear Part Sonerai 2 L

Peter, Definitions of landing gear can vary, can you clarify what specific part you are looking for? The main aluminum spring gear that is bent/formed into a "U" with 2 legs? Gear attach blocks and step (fabrication dimensions shown in the plans), wheels, tires, brakes?

    582 Rotax

Sorry Kenny, I just don't want anyone thinking they can get deal buying a J2200 out of Indonesia. I agree with your previous conclusion that the VW conversion is still the most affordable 60-80hp option for those of us on tight budgets.

    582 Rotax

Based on the horsepower rating of 80, I think it's safe to assume that's not a current Gen4 spec 85hp motor. The Paramotor website also looks pretty sketchy to me; would you charge $7,500 on your credit card and hope that they sent you an engine??

    582 Rotax

Which US Dealer was selling Gen 4 J2200 for $7,500???? Last price quote I saw for a Gen 4 2200 was this from Arion Aircraft website: "2200 Generation 4 (4-cylinder, 85 hp @ 3300 RPM) – $14,900 Due to fluctuations in exchange rate, prices may change at any time. All prices in USD and current...

No doubt, I like the design of the J2200, but it has taken a looong time for the factory to refine it into a reliable and durable aircraft engine. A new 4th gen J2200 is a good engine. A Gen 1 J2200 that requires extensive and expensive mods to reach 4th Gen status may not be a good investment.

Chucker, What's the trick to removing the 3 degree taper pulley from the HAPI crankshaft? I need to go through my 1835 at some point in time. Is there a crankshaft seal that the pulley has to be removed to replace? I plan on checking all clearances and replacing all the seals on my 1835...

Chucker, Take a piston and a set of rings when you drive down the hill to PHX. First and second ring gap widths may differ and you really need to run modern Total Seal compression rings in the the first gap. I talked to Patrick & Robin earlier today; they've been in Elkhorn, WI for about 28...

Chucker, The fact that you have Total Seal gapless rings in the second ring position leads me to believe that you have a nice factory built HAPI 1835 engine that should have the HAPI 3 degree tapered hub as well. If the rings are good and the cylinder bores still have good cross hatch, I'd...

Chucker, My engine has a HAPI 60-2DM data plate on it and looks identical to all the pictures of 60-2DMs in the HAPI catalogs I have. Additionally, the hub is same as those pictured in the catalogs, the Rex Taylor VW book and the Rex Taylor articles from Sport Aviation. AFAIK, HAPI did not...

Sonerai 2LS for sale w/ enclosed trailer

Steve, I know that your Sonerai is sold, but I'm curious as to what kind of cruise speeds/RPM you got with the big 2.3L Great Plains engine. Mitch

Joe, Thanks for the PN on the Subby starter. It's under $100 on Amazon but tips the scales at a hefty 8.65lbs. I don't need the power of a gear reduction starter to start my little 1835 so I'll keep looking for the PN for the Bosch 3.5lb starter. Mitch

Interesting, the starter you have is a Nippondenso (know as "Denso" in the US) from a Japanese vehicle. It also looks like it has an attached solenoid. The Bosch starter HAPI had in the early 1980's catalog (882) and the 84/85 catalog was much smaller, did not have an attached solenoid and...

Chucker, Sounds like you've got your 1835 mostly apart with the exception of removing the prop flange from the nose of the crank. Did you leave the pistons installed on the rods too? Am I correct in assuming that your engine was assembled with teflon buttons retaining the piston pins vs...

Chucker, I got a HAPI 1835 motor with the S2L project I acquired last August which forced me to do a little research on the company. HAPI was founded by Rex Taylor (I believe in the late 1970s) and was one of the better VW aero conversions in the early to mid 1980s. I have an original log book...
