Hello
I'm new to the forum. I am thinking to buy a iiL kit, wings haven't been started on it. Is it possible to convert it to a mid wing? Will I need new spars?

The mid-wing and low-wing airplanes use basically the same wing. The only difference between them is the length of the spar tang that fits into the carry-thru box. The low-wing tang is 2” shorter to clear the control stick torque tube assembly. Since the wings haven’t been built yet, you can make them either way.
If the fuselage has been built, you’ll need to add the main spar carry-thru mounting bushings, and the rear spar carry-thru support tubes and bushings. Just follow the plans.

Thanks Fred
i neglected to mention that the spars are built but not populated with ribs yet. I take it from your kind reply that the spars will be too short to be used as mid wing spars assuming the tang is cut to low wing dimension.

The spars will be fine. The fact that the tang is shorter has no effect on the structural strength of the spars. The only real function of the tang is to keep the wings from falling off when the taper pins are removed. Once the taper pins are installed the tang inboard of the pins is just going along for the ride.

Is there a difference in dihedral between the low and mid wing?
