Insuring a Sonerai

I insured my IIL with Avemco for 30+ years. I only carried liability insurance. I self-insured the hull.

Same. Avemco Liability only.

I wouldn't even ask for a quote until you feel confident you can truthfully answer their currency requirement questions in the affirmative. This puts you in the catch-22 conundrum of needing to get 10hrs without any realistic way of doing it except to go do it uninsured and don't bend it.

I got ready to fly the Sonerai by getting some time flying an Aeronca Champ from the back seat. A whole bunch of takeoffs and landings. Got comfortable slipping it to the runway so I could see around the CFI sitting in the front seat. Then, I flew the Sonerai for 10 hours solo, before I called the insurance company for a quote. Not the best way to do it. But, it got done.
