Why did I do it this way? Because I wanted the challenge. I also like the idea of having the forward horizontal stabilizer securely mounted to the frame. I used a Piper elevator trim actuator and trim control wheel assembly. I set my trim limits at 23.5° up trim and 13° down trim. The trim tab stays in a neutral position through complete elevator up and down travel. I know this is outside the box and not the typical trim installation. In the rare case that my elevator control where to fail I should be able to fly the airplane with just the trim system. That explains why such a large trim tab.
