N109JB is a Sonerai IIL that is currently a single place. I started the build in 1987, completing it in June 1992. The airplane was originally a IIL 2-seat, became a IILT 2-seat tricycle for a while, then went to a IIL 1-seat as it is now. Along the way, it has received a reshaped turtledeck and canopy frame, slightly enlarged vertical tail. When it went to single seat, I moved the firewall back 8 inches and put the engine on a "aircraft style" tube engine mount. This allows access to the starter and alternator without removing the entire engine. Power is a 2275 cc VW conversion with a shrink fit prop hub and a HAPI accessory case and starter. An automotive alternator is driven from a custom flywheel bolt with drive ears for a rubber coupler integrated. Ignition is a Bosch 009 distributor with an electronic ignition module replacing the points. Was not flying for upwards of 10 years and then got it back in the air in Sept 2020. Have since worked out the bugs and it is doing well now.
