I was trolling the EAA website and found (quite by accident) this page. It provides a virtual tour of John Monnet's S-1 prototype parked in the EAA museum, beauty in simplicity personified.
One cool side benefit is to scroll up a bit, then turn right or left 360 degrees and check out the airplanes parked nearby!

John claimed 440 pounds when it was first built.....However, It got upgraded several times during its flying life. I don't know of any homebuilt that gets lighter as things are added and upgraded.
The lightest Sonerai 1 I have ever 'seen' was 491 empty..I 'heard' of one that was built at 485 pounds.......Most, including the FV racers, which had the heavy 'S' mod, and tuned header pipes, came in at 520 to 550 pounds empty.......

6.5 lbs per panel, but we ( FV ) did the whole angle mounting with AN-3 bolts and stop nuts.....
